One or two?


Here is the fifth lesson in Swedish for beginners especially for the participants of Klurendrejeriet® mini. We have previously covered the magic number one in Swedish, and this time we are doing it to two too! In modern Swedish, the word primarily used is två [roughly pronounced: twoh]. As always, there are a few exceptions found in standing expressions or archaic ways of expressing some type of dualism (a few of these are listed below, where the two counterpart is in the translated explanation is in italics). There is no grammatical dual (dualis) per se in modern Swedish, but some remnants can still be seen in words like ögon (eyes), öron (eyes), and pairing words like båda and bägge (both meaning both).

Nu när vi går in i de två sista veckorna av Klurendrejeriet® mini, kommer vi att erbjuda dagliga ledtrådar till tävlingens tre gåtor. Trots detta finns det all anledning att lämna in svaret så snabbt som möjligt, eftersom vi lägger till tre små priser till den första rätta lösningen för varje fråga (max ett pris/person; priserna presenteras under sista veckan)! Som vi nämnt tidigare är priserna i Klurendrejeriet® mini väldigt små och skall inte jämföras med de som har erbjudits i den årliga stora tävlingen. Swiss miss?


With two weeks left of Klurendrejeriet® mini, we will start offering daily clues to the three questions in the contest. There is, however, an added bonus to send in you answers as soon as possible, since we are adding three small prizes to the first correct solutions to each of the questions (limit one prize/person; prizes will be presented during the last week)! As mentioned before, the prizes in Klurendrejeriet® mini should not be compared with those that have been offered in the large annual contest. The clue of the day (above) is meant for questions 2 and 3.

The first date?


Have you thought of the curious little fact that today's date corresponds to a value of three (3), if one writes the date in a "proper" way (27/9). The American viewers tuning in will have to settle for a third! Either way, three is also the number of questions in Klurendrejeriet® mini, the contest that bugs people all around the world! But you have to agree that it is worth it once a questions is solved?

Liv på Mars? (Life on Mars?)

Ännu en gång är Mars på tapeten, eftersom en Nasa-rymdsond har hittat grottor på planeten. Om detta innebär en förbättring av oddsen till liv på vår grannplanet är ännu svårt att säga, men det hindrar inte att damma av den klassiska David Bowie-skivan med denna frågeställning. Om det finns intelligent liv där, inkommer det kanske ett svar till Klurendrejeriet® mini (se länk till höger) inom kort.









Martial art?


Once again, Mars is in the news after a NASA probe has discovered what looks like caves on the planet. If this increases the odds of finding life on our neighbour in space is too soon to tell, but do not be afraid to dust off the classic David Bowie album with the question in mind. If there is intelligent life, perhaps there will be a Martian reply to Klurendrejeriet® mini (see link to the right) within a few weeks.

Swedish 101 (part 4)

Här nedan följer den fjärde delen i Klurbloggens nybörjarkurs i svenska, som erbjuds för att göra Klurendrejeriet® tillgänglig för de som inte har svenska som modersmål.








Island in the stream?


In this session of Swedish 101, we will take a look at the three Swedish letters Å, Ä, and Ö. Unlike German, these characters are treated as separate letters and not just umlauted versions of A and O, which is essential when for instance sorting entries in a dictionary or train timetable. You will not find the city of Härnösand listed in the "Har" or "Haer" section, but rather in its own order under "Hä". The letters are placed last in the Swedish alphabet (... y, z, å, ä, ö), and all being vowels, they bring the total to nine separate vowels in the language (y is also counted as a vowel). Ä by itself does not mean anything, but å is the Swedish word for stream and ö is the Swedish word for island.

Sedelarande hantverk? (Useful handicroft?)

Vinnaren i omröstningen om Klurbloggens läsares favoritlagmedlem för den kommande tävlingen Klurendrejeriet® 2008 är avgjord och vinnaren blev Lara Croft (från Tomb Raider-produkterna). Hon är beredd på det mesta och minst sagt ... välutrustad. Lara vann med hälften av rösterna före James Bond, Angus MacGyver och Indiana Jones (alla 11 %).









Part of your Dream Team?


The winner in the vote for Favourite team member for the upcoming Klurendrejeriet® 2008 among Klurbloggen's readers is none other than Lara Croft (known from the Tomb Raider franchaise). She is ready for any eventuality and well-equipped ... to say the least. Ms Croft took half of all the votes, with James Bond, Angus MacGyver and Indiana Jones on a split second place (11 % each).

1500!

Antalet besök till Klurbloggen har ökat markant den senaste tiden och har nu passerat 1500 unika besökare. Nästa rapport kommer vid 2000! Medan vi väntar på den gränsen finns det ju alltid lite gåtor att lösa i Klurendrejeriet® mini.






One and a half thousand!


The number of visitors on Klurbloggen has increased dramatically the last couple of weeks, and we have now passed 1500 unique visitors. The next report will come once we reach 2000. While we wait, there are a few questions to be solved in Klurendrejeriet® mini.

Hot eller bjudande? (Torquayean threat?)

Den brittiska turismministern Margaret Hodge vill att engelska hotell skall uppgraderas inför de Olympiska spelen i London 2012, allt för att tvätta bort exempel som gav upphov till kultserien Pang i bygget. Det skall böjas i det, det som torquayigt skall bli, men för säkerhets skull blir det nog inga engelska hotellbokningar inkluderade i priserna för Klurendrejeriet® 2008. Vi får väl vänta ett par år till efter OS.









Not Olypmic standard?


The British Minister for Culture, Creative Industries & Tourism Margaret Hodge is working on preventive measures for the upcoming Olympic Games in London 2012, to minimize a hotel disaster. She does not want the visitors of the event to experience anything like what the guests at Fawlty Towers had to withstand. To be on the safe side, we promise to not include any English hotel reservations in the prizes for Klurendrejeriet® 2008. I guess that will have to wait until after the Olympics.

Vill Gere vara svensk? (Swedish Gere-atrics?)

Kapp-Ahl har lockat till sig ytterligare en Hollywood-stjärna till sin You Look Great-kampanj. Den som sägs gilla deras budskap denna gång är det ingen mindre än Richard Gere, som genom Pretty Woman och American Gigolo har haft länkar med Sverige förut. Den sistnämnda innehåller en "berömd" scen där vi får höra hans försök till svenska. På tal om det erbjuder vi en ny lektion i Swedish 101 inom kort, allt för att underlätta lösandet av Klurendrejeriet® mini (länk till höger) och kommande Klurendrejeriet® 2008.







Do I look gereate?

Swedish clothing warehouse Kapp-Ahl has revealed its latest Hollywood addition to their You Look Great campaign. This time it is no other than Richard Gere, who trough Pretty Woman and American Gigolo have had connections with Sweden before. The latter includes a "famous" scene where we hear Mr. Gere try to speak Swedish. Speaking of trying, we will offer a new Swedish 101 lesson shortly to simplify any Klurendrejeriet® mini (link to the right) and Klurendrejeriet® 2008 solving efforts.

Ett sant nöje! (Truly a pleasure!)

Med så många besök som Klurbloggen har haft den senaste tiden från hela Sverige (83 %), Storbritannien (3,5 %), Finland (2 %) och resten Europa (7 %) och världen (4,5 %) är det verkligen dags att bjuda på en ledtråd. Vi säger inte till vilken fråga i Klurendrejeriet® mini det gäller, eftersom det är så pass uppenbart.

Risk för uppskattning? (A great tip?)

Svenska Dagbladet rapporterar om det som kan vara den största dricksen i svensk historia: Laholmen Hotell i Strömstad har fått aktier till ett nuvarande värde på en och en halv miljon kronor(!) till skänks som ska utgöra grunden till en framtida fond för vars avkastning skall gå till "Årets medarbetare". Den nöjda gästen som skänker aktierna, Matts O Westerberg, skänker aktierna för att visa sin uppskattning för det bemötande som han fått sedan 1986. Om Klurendrejeriet® skänker motsvarande glädje bland någon av våra lösare borde prissumman kunna öka drastiskt om en sisådär arton år ...






Best service ever?


The Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet has reported about possibly the largest tip in Swedish history: Laholmen Hotel in Strömstad has been given shares and stocks to a combined value of 1.5 million Swedish crowns forming the mutual fund where the annual yield will be given to the "Employee of the year". The satisfied hotel guest, a Mr. Westerberg of Stockholm, offers this donation to show his gratitude for the excellent service he has received since 1986. If Klurendrejeriet® offers the same amount of happiness among any of our solvers, the grand prize may just get an unexpected boost in amout eighteen years ...

En gång i halvtimmen! (Once every half hour!)

Denna vecka har Klurbloggen varit minst sagt välbesökt med nya rekord satta på nästan alla fronter! För perioden måndag till fredag var snittantalet 44 unika besökare per dag, det vill säga nästan en besökare per halvtimme, vilket kommer att betyda att även ett nytt veckorekord sattes och att september med all säkerhet blir den månad med flest besök hittills. Som tack för dessa besök erbjuds därför imorgon en extra ledtråd imorgon!

This week, Klurbloggen has been more visited than ever before - with new records in all sorts of lists! The period Monday-Friday had an average of 44 unique visitors per day, or a visitor every half hour around the clock, which means that a new weekly record will be set and that September most likely will be the month with most visitors ever. As a token of appreciation, we will offer an extra clue tomorrow.

En amerikansk undersökning har visat det alla redan visste: om en nödsituation skulle uppstå vill mer än var fjärde tillfrågad ha med sig Angus MacGyver från tv-serien med samma namn - såklart! Phoenixstiftelsens agent som gav upphov till en hel livsstil hjälper alltid de in underläge och är nog de flesta äventyrliga svenskars val också, eller hur? På denna blogg borde man dock ställa sig frågan hur bra MacGyver och de övriga på listan skulle klara av Klurendrejeriet® inklusive dess miniversion. För att ta reda på detta gör vi motsvarande undersökning: Vem skulle du helst vilja ha med i ditt Klurendrejeriet® 2008-lag?

An American survey has shown something everybody already knew: if an emergency situation were to arise, more than one in four of those asked would want to be with Angus MacGyver the hero from the aptly named tv series MacGyver - of course! The Phoeninx Foundation agent that gave rise to an entire lifestyle always helps those in need and we are pretty sure the same result would appear if one were to ask adventurous Swedes. On this blog, however, one wonders how well MacGyver and his friends would solve Klurendrejeriet® (including the current mini one). To answer this, we are opening the following survey: Which problem solver would you want to have on your Klurendrejeriet® 2008 team?

1200 besökare/visitors!

Återigen har de senaste dagarna varit hektiska på besöksfronten här på Klurbloggen! Detta har gjort att besöksantalet svischade förbi 1200 unika besökare och vi hoppas att alla hann med att hitta Klurendrejeriet® mini eller vad man nu letade efter. Vi har dock hjälpt någon med att förstå vem som syns på tuberna innehållande Kalles kaviar, något som var på alla tävlandes läppar redan under 2005 års upplaga. Bland de senare länderna som har Klurbloggen-besökare räknas nu även Georgien, Luxemburg och Litauen.








3333 visitors (in base 7!)


Once again, there has been a rush the past few days here on Klurbloggen! This has made the number of unique visitors pass 1200, and we sincerely hope that everyone found Klurendrejeriet® mini or whatever they were looking for. We have helped someone in answering who is on the Kalles kaviar tubes, a fact that was on everybody's lips already in the 2005 edition of the contest. Among the new countries with Klurbloggen visitors, we find Georgia, Luxemburg, and Lithuania.

Planterad återförening? (Planted ze reunion?)

Det verkar vara klart att det kultförklarade bandet Led Zeppelin kommer att åter återförenas för första gången på tolv år. Datumet för den enda spelningen är satt till 26 november och det är här konspirationsteoretikerna drar igång. Det är måndagen före den planerade starten av Klurendrejeriet® 2008 och man undrar om de samlas för att lägga upp strategin för tävlingen. Kan det ha varit Plant, Page och Jones som har bloggat in tidigare? Det skulle förklara uppsvinget i besökare från de Brittiska öarna. Vi får väl se hur det blir med Led Zeppelin-deltagandet, men fram tills dess är det miniversionen som gäller!






Var det hela tolv år sen sist?
"Call me in another 12 years."


It looks as if the cult band Led Zeppelin will be reunited once again for the first time in twelve years. The date for the single concert is set to November 26, which is why conspiracy theoreticians have started a small debate. That date is the last Monday before the start of Klurendrejeriet® 2008, and one cannot help wondering if the concert is just a cover-up for a strategy meeting for the contest. Is it possible that Plant, Page, and Jones have visited the site before? It would explain the rise in visitors from the British Isles. We will see if there is a Led Zeppelin answer in the end, but until then we have a mini version to solve.
