I val där man redan före valet vet namnet på vinnaren kan det faktiskt fortfarande vara viktigt att rösta - i alla fall om samtliga kandidater heter likadant! Så var fallet i samband med en reklamkampanj strax före filmen The Simpsons Movie hade premiär i USA. Bland fjorton städer i landet som heter Springfield, precis som i den tecknade serien, fördes en intensiv kampanj där den vinnande staden ligger på östkusten i Vermont, mycket tack vare deras valkampanjsfilm. Namnet Vermont kommer troligtvis från franskans les mons vert, de gröna bergen. Ledtrådsbilden i med-i-adventskalendern visar State Captiol Building i en av förlorarna, Springfield, Illinois. Even in elections where you know the name of the winner before the election may be worth voting in - at least if all the candidates have the same name. This was the case in a promotional election just before the US premiere of The Simpsons Movie. In fourteen cities all named Springfield, just like in the animated series, intensive campaigns were held where the winning city was found on the east coast in Vermont. The name Vermont is likely derived from the French les mons vert, the green mountains. The photo hint in the med-i-adventskalender shows the Illinois State Captiol in one of the losing Springfields, Springfield, IL. Correct answer: Springfield (11.5 poäng)

We have previously reported that Santa in Sweco's calculation mathematically should start his journey from Kyrgyzstan to be able to maximize the time he has to finish his delivery. Now, an official ceremony in true Holiday fashion named a mountain peak after "The Big Red Guy". Was it perhaps here on Klurbloggen the first news report was read?
Tro inte att man missar julfirandet bara för att man råkar vara stationerad på den internationella rymdstationen (ISS) över årsslutet. Idag skickades nämligen en sändning med julklappar och nyårspresenter till ivrigt väntande rymdresenärer. Huruvida pappret sparas och tas ned till nästa år återstår att se.

Do not think that the Holiday season passes unnoticed just because one happened to be stationed on the International Space Station (ISS) over the year end. Today, a rocket shipment with X-Mas presents and New Year's gifts were launched to eager space travellers. If the wrapping paper is saved or not, to be re-used next year, we do not know as of this moment.

How common is the name of the leader from the question of today? Well, a "trustworthy source" tells us that being called would be considered rude in some parts of Sweden, but we wonder how many that would take offense. Furthermore, the name can be frequently heard in one of the traditional Swedish songs of the season and everyone is happy then, right? Our leader may be called many names, but here we are looking for the simplest of them all, just like we are happy to call the Crown Princess of Sweden for Victoria even though we know that she maybe should be called H.R.H. Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée Bernadotte, Duchess of Västergötland.

Även om det fanns liknande modeller när Rubik Ernő patenterade sin idé, var det just hans version som blev den ledande produkten. Det finns både större och mindre varianter av denna leksak, men den ursprungliga 3x3x3-varianten är nog den som folk kommer ihåg.

The most famous cube with a name ought to be Rubik's Cube, that was sold in over 100 million copies in the beginning of the 1980's. Even though there were other similar models when Rubik Ernő patented his idea, it was his version that turned out to be the leading product. For those of you who do not remember, one had to gather the squares with the same colour on each of the cube's six faces. It has recently been shown that one does need no more than 26 moves regardless of starting position to complete this task. There are both smaller and larger versions of this toy, but it is the original 3x3x3-type that people remember.

... the sixth of December. On this day, 90 years ago, Finland adopted the Declaration of Independence from the Russian Empire, and was granted the same a few weeks later. Ever since, Finland has always been ahead of Sweden, at least with respect to time zones: +1 hour. We at Klurbloggen send our "birthday greetings" to the just-turned nonagenarian country that held the solution to last year's Total Towhead: Hyvää syntymäpäivää!
Det svenska företaget Sweco har räknat ut att om tomten skall besöka alla snälla barn (som därmed förväntar sig klappar) har han 34 mikrosekunder på sig på varje avstjälpningsställe, en nyhet som inte vi kan undanhålla er då den dykt upp i ett par svenska kvällstidningar. Dessutom placeras hans hemvist i Kirgizistan, allt för att underlätta leveransen! Här i Klurendrejeriet® 2008 har ni lite längre tid på er: en gåta om dagen räcker gott och väl. The Swedish company Sweco has calculated that Santa Claus has 34 microseconds at every stop if he is to deliver presents to all the well-behaved children around the globe (thus expecting a X-Mas gift). To expedite the task, the company has also placed Mr. Claus' home in Kyrgyzstan! The news has appeared in many Swedish newspapers and world media, and it would be unfair to keep it from you. When solving Klurendrejeriet® 2008, you have a bit more time: one riddle a day is more than enough. If you manage that, you may very well be on your way to the final, and Santa can skip you on his route!

A few hours ago the kick-off for Klurendrejeriet® 2008 took place, where the theme was finally revealed: Travel and adventure! The official start of Sweden.
Sweden is often referred to as being a small country, when in fact it is the 55th largest country area-wise. The country streches from Smygehuk in the south (55°20'13" N, 13°21'34" E) to Treriksröset in the north (69°03'36" N, 20°32'55" E), as well as the islets Stora Drammen in the west (58°55'43" N, 10°57'27" E) and Kataja in the east (65°42'0" N, 24°10'0" E). When it comes to population, Sweden drops to 88th place with its 9.1 million inhabitants but that is still in the top half. The combination between the two, however, causes Sweden to end up with of a mere 20 persons per square kilometer. Then again, Sweden's two land-linked neighbours, Finland and Norway, both have an even lower population density at 15.5 and 12 person per square kilometer, respectively. No wonder there is still true wilderness in the northern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula!
