4. BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

“We, the people of …” börjar landets konstitution och fortsätter sedan med att spalta upp lagar och förordningar. Landets frimärken hedrar några av världens ledare, däribland Churchill, i olika valörer av landets valuta. Andra namn som spelat stor roll i landets historia är Ford, Buchanan och Lady Bird. Landets president valdes enhälligt i valet 196_, där skillnaden att ha och inte ha rösträtt sägs ha utdelats av den valda presidenten själv! Vidare beskrivs presidenten till utseendet som en blandning av sin äldre bror och jultomten(!), båda sannolikt mycket mer kända för de allra flesta. De sista två bokstäverna i presidentens förnamn är samma som de första två i den äldre broderns namn. Anteckna dessa två bokstäver.

Additionally, the looks of the president is described to be a mixture of his older brother and Santa Claus(!), both likely to be a lot more well-known by most people. The last two letters in the given name of the president is the first two of the older brother's name. Write down these two letters.

Redan ifjol fick deltagarna i Klurendrejeriet® chansen att bestämma ett par ledtrådar, för det är så det går till numera. Folket får ofta säga sitt, men får även stå sitt kast. I årets upplaga av tävlingen krävs det dock bara att man svarar på sex av de tjugofyra frågor som ni hittar här. Klarar du det för tiden går ut?

Already last year, the participants in Klurendrejeriet® had the opportunity to decide a few clues, since that is the custom nowadays. The people often have their say, but have to live with it as well. In this year's edition, however, one only needs to answer six of the twenty-four questions you find here. Will you make it before time runs out?

14. VALKAMPANJ (14. ELECTION CAMPAIGN)

Är det någon vits att hålla ett val där man redan vet vem som kommer att vinna? Förmodligen inte, men det hindrar inte att segraren i denna öststat stolt proklamerades som landets utvalda - trots ett verkligt stöd av enbart 14 % av rösterna enligt en amerikansk valobservatör. De massprotester man kan se på filmen om valet är helt plötsligt förståeliga, eller hur? Och anspelar valaffischernas "VIE" möjligen på statens franska kolonialband? Hursomhelst, vi vet att antalet röster på vinnaren nästan var dubbelt så många som det aktuella invånarantalet - ändå brydde sig ingen om att göra någon stor nyhet av detta udda faktum. Vad heter segraren i detta val (elva bokstäver)?






Vinnare eller förlorare?
Winner or loser?


Is there any real reason to hold an election if you already know who will be victorious? Probably not, but that does not stop the winner in this Eastern state to be proudly proclaimed as the one chosen by the country - in spite of a true support of a mere 14 % of the votes according to an US election observer. The mass protests that can be seen on election footage is all of a sudden understandable, right? And could the "VIE" on the election posters possibly hint to the French colonial connections of the state? Anyway, we do know that the number of votes cast on the winner were almost twice the current number of inhabitants - yet no one bothered to make a news story about this odd fact. What is the name of the winner in this election (eleven letters)?

The numbers above may vary depending on interpretation and point in time. Here, we report the latest ones following the "permanent rules", even though the letters themselves may be viewed as a bit old. O is much too complex to list, but which value corresponds for X?

Röstresultat (Voting outcome)

Den fråga som fick överlägset flest röster för en extra ledtråd var fråga 14. Inte mindre än 75 %(!) ansåg sig behöva mer hjälp än vad som gavs i den ursprungliga texten. Den näst mest efterfrågade ledtråden, den för gåta 16, fick drygt 16 % av rösterna men var ändå i tät kamp med fråga 20 och 11.





"...fjorton? Fjorton? FJORTON! Femton, sexton ..."

The question that got most votes by far in search for an extra clue was number 14. No less than 75 per cent(!) of the voters needed more help than what was given in the original text. The second-most asked-for clue, the one for riddle 16, got roughly 16 per cent of the votes, closely trailed by questions 20 and 11.

Hur firar man bäst det nya året? Det har ju trots allt pågått i flera timmar nu, så visst bör man göra något speciellt. Vad sägs om en ledtråd till inte en utan två gåtor i Klurendrejeriet® 2008? Inga namn på de som lämnar kommentarer kommer att offentliggöras, men om du föredrar att vara helt anonym kan du välja det när du lämnar ditt svar. En extra ledtråd kommer att ges till vardera av de två frågor som fått flest röster till 18.00 (CET), 2 januari 2008, så fort rösträkningen sammanställts. What is the best way to celebrate the new year? After all, it has existed for several hours now, which leads one to make something special. How about a clue to not one but two questions in Klurendrejeriet® 2008? You vote by simply replying to this message with a comment writing the titles to the two questions you would like a clue to. No names of those people who leave comments will be published, but if you prefer to be completely anonymous you can select that option when writing your answer. An extra clue will be given to each of the two questions that have received the most votes by 6 p.m. (CET), January 2, 2008, as soon as the votes have been counted. A preview of the most discussed questions can be found on MeMaC, the German quiz forum.

3. HANDUPPSTRECKNING (3. HAND IN HAND, LINE BY LINE)

Här kommer lösningen för fråga 3. HANDUPPSTRECKNING:
Denna Klurendrejeriet® mini-fråga kantades av en uppsjö bilder med siffror eller enkla additionsuppgifter, men vad stod egentligen siffrorna för? Det visar sig att dessa var antalet röster som personerna eller föremålen i fråga fick i Riksdagsvalet 2006! Eftersom det som visades upp knappast kan räknas till de partier vi normalt hör talas om har varje röst skrivits för hand på en blank valsedel. Efter det att Valmyndigheten infört en mycket striktare tolkning har dessa minst sagt udda röster splittrats som aldrig tidigare. Detta betyder att Kalle Anka partiet (93 röster) av någon outgrundlig anledning inte räknas ihop med Kalle Anka Partiet (39 röster) eller Kalle Ankapartiet (6 röster), trots att denna "regel" inte verkar finnas för etablerade och registrerade partier. Om man nu ändå skulle slå ihop de Kalle Anka-relaterade rösterna till ett parti skulle det räcka till en tjugoförsta plats, men ändå inte bara motsvara 0,004 % av de avgivna rösterna.








En röst med osynligt bläck?


Oavsett vem man röstar på räknas rösten och redovisas dagarna efter varje val på Valmyndighetens hemsida, där man även hittar de handskrivna rösterna med ett fåtal röster lagda på alla möjliga ting och personer. Några av de illustrerade ledtrådarna var den grekiska ön Kos (en röst), Robin Hood (tre röster på honom och en röst på Robin Hood Partiet), idrottsklubben Djurgårdens IF (en röst), skådespelaren Sven Wollter (två röster) och en tax (en röst på TAX PARTIET). Även en dubbelledtråd i form av schweiziska rösti gavs med bara två veckor kvar. Som en slutlig ledtråd riktad åt Klurbloggens icke-svenska deltagare, illustrerades sammanträffandet att ordet val även kan motsvara ett däggdjur på svenska och inte bara ett omröstningsförfarande. Detta gjordes med en specialdesignad version av Wales' flagga. Rätt svar: 1 (motsvarande en röst på Röd)

Here is the solution to question 3. HAND IN HAND, LINE BY LINE:
This Klurendrejeriet® mini question was symbolized with a bunch of pictures with numbers or simple additions, but what did it represent? It turns out that these were the number of votes cast on these people or items in the Swedish General Election to the Swedish Riksdag in 2006! Those "parties" shown were, however, not those commonly in the news and have thus all been written on the ballot by hand. These votes are counted as valid votes, but have very little effect on the election outcome. The Swedish Election Authority has recently enforced a much stricter interpretation of handwritten votes. This affects a semi-serious party such as Kalle Anka partiet [the Donald Duck party] which received 93 votes not to be pooled with Kalle Anka Partiet (39 votes) or eller Kalle Ankapartiet (6 votes), even though this "rule" does not seem to exist for the more well-established and registered parties. However, if one were to disregard this additional rule, the Donald Duck-related votes would make it the 21st largest party, but still only amount to 0.004 % of the votes cast.








A vote with invisible ink?


Regardless whom one votes for, the results are summed up on the homepage of the Swedish Election Authority, where the handwritten votes are listed included some quite amusing ones. A few of the illustrated clues included the Greek island Kos (one vote), Robin Hood (three votes for the legendary hero himself and one on his party), the sports club Djurgårdens IF (one vote), the actor Sven Wollter (two votes) and a dachshund (one vote on TAX PARTIET)! The clue that included Swiss rösti was truly a language exercise (röst = [a] vote)! As a final clue especially for you as a non-Swedish reader of Klurblogge, the coincidental spelling of the Swedish word val which means both the mammal whale and election. This was done on a specially designed version of the flag of Wales! Correct answer: 1 (for the one vote on Röd [Red])

Klurendrejeriet® mini avslutad/closed!

Nu har Klurendrejeriet® mini stängt för i år. Antalet inkomna svar ökade med 17 procent jämfört med motsvarande tävling i fjol! Framförallt ökade antalet tyska bidrag avsevärt tack vare samarbetet med det tyska frågesportsforumet MeMaC. Med hjälp av inlämningsomröstningen ni kan se här till höger, kan ni på ett ungefär lista ut era vinstchanser. Tävlingens samtliga svar, priser och vinnare kommer naturligtvis att redovisas inom kort här på Klurbloggen, i det kommande numret av Ultunesaren och på Ultunesarens hemsida.

Klurendrejeriet® mini has now closed for this year. The number of answers increased by 17 per cent compared to the same contest last year! First and foremost there was a dramatic increase in the number of German answers, much thanks to the cooperation with the German quiz forum MeMaC. By looking at the submission survey to the right, it is possible to get a grip on your chance of winning. De som följt med sedan tävlingen startade har säkert sett båda versionerna av gåtan, men den tål att upprepas - denna gång sida vid sida (se nedan). Båda versionerna "säger" exakt samma sak, men den senare (övre) versionen uppfattas säkerligen som enklare för förstagångsdeltagare i Klurendrejeriet®. Namnet är känt sedan en lång tid tillbaka både i Sverige och utomlands - hur känt återstår dock att kvantifiera.

Those that have followed the contest since the beginning probably have seen both versions of the riddle, but it is certainly useful to repeat it - this time side by side (see above). Both versions "say" the same thing, but the latter (upper) version is probably experienced as the easier one for first-time participants in Klurendrejeriet®. The name is well-known for quite some time in both Sweden and abroad, though how well-known is still to be determined.

In spite of the low turn-out (see above), there is no doubt which question the readers of Klurbloggen would like to get an extra clue for: the winner is question 1. Eftersom inläggen på Klurbloggen hinner försvinna ur synhåll alltför snabbt, har omröstningarna permanent flyttat till högermarginalen (en nyhet hos Blogger). Detta betyder att din tid till att påverka vilken gåta som kommer att förses med en extra ledtråd förlängs med ytterligare en vecka. Since the posts on Klurbloggen are moving downwards with an alarming rate, the voting procedures have moved to the right-hand margin permanently (a new feature on Blogger).
