I dagens moderna samhälle är det knappt någon som använder den fysiska motsvarigheten av det dubbelgrubbelord vi sökte här, möjligtvis med undantag vid högtidsdagar. Detta till trots, valde Svenska Akademien att inkludera detta begrepp i den trettonde upplagan av dess ordlista, SAOL XIII, och tur var väl det för hur ofta ser man ord med samma bokstav upprepad tre gånger efter varandra? Ljudvärdesmässigt blir det till och med fyra bokstäver när man högläser det eftersökta ordet: TT-telegram! TT står naturligtvis för Tidningarnas telegrambyrå, vilket gör ordet självrefererande. Telegrammen läses numera inte upp i radiomen gjorde så länge sedan starten 1 januari 1922. TT är även det mer familjära namnet på ölvarumärket Three Towns, vars namn kommer från de stora bryggerierna i Göteborg (Pripps), Malmö (Skånebryggerier) och Stockholm (St. Erik) vid deras USA-lansering av ett exportöl 1955. In the modern world today, there is hardly any that uses the physical representation of the doubly troublesome word we were looking for here, with the possible exception of weddings. This fact, however, did not stop the Swedish Academy to include the term in the thirteenth edition of its dictionary, SAOL XIII, allowing us to find a Swedish word with a triply repeated consonant! Soundwise, we would even have to include a fourth letter to get the sought-after entry: TT-telegram! TT is the official abbrevation of the news agency Tidningarnas telegrambyrå, making the word self-referencing. The first telegram sent by TT was issued January 1, 1922. TT is also the casual term for the Swedish beer brand Three Towns, whose name is derived from large breweries in Gothenburg (Pripps), Malmö (Skånebryggerier), and Stockholm (St. Erik) used at the US launch in 1955. 08. REGNBÅGSMOSAIK (08. RAINBOW MOSAIC)

Gissningarna var inte särskilt många på den svåra mosaikfrågan, men lösningen desto vackrare. Det hela handlade om den väldigt annorlunda tvillingstaden Baarle på gränsen mellan Belgien (gult) och Nederländerna (blått), som nog inspirerade Peyo till smurfalbumet Smurfbråk och bråksmurfar. Den belgiska delen heter Baarle-Hertog, medan den nederländska motsvarigheten heter Baarle-Nassau. En del hus i staden delas mellan städerna och därmed länderna, vilket har lett till att affärer flyttat ingången till den del som var mest gynnsam. There were not that many guesses to the most difficult mosaic question, though the solution was neater than most. The abstract "painting" is a map of the very different twin city Baarle on the border between Belgium (yellow) and the Netherlands (blue). The Belgian side is called Baarle-Hertog, whereas the Dutch counterpart is referred to as Baarle-Nassau. Some houses in the city is split between the cities, and hence the countries, which once led to stores moving their entrance to benefit from certain country specific laws and regulations. Inside some stores it is possible to see a "rainbow pattern" similar to the one used at the European Championship in football, Euro 2000. 10. STOCKHOLMSVY (10. STOCKHOLM VIEW)

Filmen Hancock om den alkoholiserade superhjälten med samma namn marknadsfördes med hjälp av olika filmaffischer där speglingen i huvudpersonens solglasögon varierade mellan olika länder. Här nedan ses versionerna som användes i USA (Los Angeles), Australien (Sydney), Tyskland (Berlin) och Sverige (Stockholm). 12. MISTELUTTRYCK (12. MISTLETOE MISCHIEF)

Att som i fråga 12 tolka litteratur sägs vara en konst, men ändå undersöks Shakespeare om och om och om igen. En av de mest svårlästa tolkningarna bör dock vara Notes Towards the Complete Works of Shakespeare som skrevs av Elmo, Gum, Heather, Holly, Mistletoe och Rowan - sex celebesmakaker i Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, uppkallade efter bland annat järnek, mistel och rönn. Syftet med deras publikation var, enligt deras skötare, att få till stånd ett svar på en ofta omtalad del av kaosteorin: om man har ett oändligt antal apor framför varsin skrivmaskin, skulle de då kunna skriva ett verk som är oskiljbart från ett skrivet av Shakespeare? Svaret lät naturligtvis inte vänta på sig, även om makakerna förmodligen är lyckligt omedvetna om uppståndelsen. Inom internetkulturen får Andrej Kolmogorovs sats om oändligt antal apor anses som välspridd, men även en aktad författare som nobelpristagaren J.M. To interpret literature is said to be an art of its own as solvers were asked to do in question 12, yet Shakespeare endures a seemingly never-ending supply of re-interpretations. One of the most hard-to-read critiques ought to be Notes Towards the Complete Works of Shakespeare written by Elmo, Gum, Heather, Holly, Mistletoe, and Rowan - six Celebes crested macaques (Macaca nigra) in Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Devon, UK. The reason with their publication was, their handler said, to reach an answer in a much debated issue with chaos theory: if one has an infinite number of monkeys each in front of a typewriter, could they then write a piece inseparable from one written by Shakespeare? The answer came quickly, although the macaques are happily unaware of the stir they caused. Within the internet culture, the infinite monkey theorem is well-known, but even a highly regarded author as Nobel prize laureate J.M. Coetzee uses his own version of this in his novel Elizabeth Costello, which was also mentioned in the question. So what about the actual result? Well, after some hesitation expressed with an ff a total of five pages were produced, primarily consisting of the letter s! Årets strikt matematiska 06. RÄKNEÖVNING hade sin beräkningsgrund i det svenska valsystemet. Även om länsbokstäverna officiellt har försvunnit ur rullorna, lever de kvar i vardagen i korsord och folkmun - och i Klurendrejeriet® såklart! Här motsvaras A av Stockholms stad (eller Stockholms kommun för att vara mer korrekt), som preliminärt tilldelades 24 fasta mandat i kommande riksdagsval. Vidare får Stockholms län (B) 36 för sin valkrets, Uppsala län (C) 11 etc. Det efterfrågade X:et står för Gävleborgs län och motsvaras nästan på romerskt vis av tio fasta mandat. This year's strict mathematical 06. CALCULATION originated from the Swedish election system. Even though the county codes, länsbokstäver, officially no longer are in use, they persist in crosswords, the general public - an in Klurendrejeriet® of course! Here, the letter A represents the Municipality of Stockholm, which preliminary was assigned 24 of the predetermined seats in the Swedish Riksdag. The system then allots 36 seats for the County of Stockholm (B), 11 for the County of Uppsala (C), etc. The missing X is deciphered as the County of Gävleborg and gets in, a Roman-esque fashion, ten parliamentary seats. Correct answer: 10 (22 points)

03. RYANAIR

De människor som tagit klivet från praktiskt taget okänd till världskänd i ett enda stort steg är förmodligen lätträknade. Det kan till och med vara så att detta tillhör en svunnen tid, men för dryga 80 år sedan lyckades en svenskättling med denna bedrift. Efter starten åtta minuter i åtta på morgonen 20 maj 1927 från New York flög Charles Lindbergh ensam i mer än 33 timmar för att landa till utanför Paris. Planet hette Spirit of St. Louis var en specialbyggd version av postplanet Ryan M-2 kallat Ryan NYP. Efter Frankrike fortsatte succéresan till en mängd andra länder som alla fick sin nationsflagga representerad på planets skrov, i tur och ordning Belgien och Storbritannien, innan en lång resa i Centralamerika och Västindien påbörjades. The number of people that have taken the giant leap from unknown till world-renown are probably easy to name. It may even be possible that this is no longer possible in this day and age, but around 80 years ago a Swedish-American managed to do just this feat. After the take-off from a small airfield outside New York eight minutes to eight in the morning of May 20, 1927, Charles Lindbergh flew alone for more than 33 hours to land outside Paris. The plane, called Spirit of St. Louis was a specially designed version of the mail delivery plane Ryan M-2 renamed Ryan NYP (New York to Paris). After the visit to France, the adventurous journey continued to a number of countries that all got their national flag painted on the hull, first Belgium then Great Britain, before a long journey to Central America and the Caribbean ended the trip. Today, the plane can be seen as part of the aviation history exhibition at the Smithsonian Institute. Rätt svar: Bel (18 points)

Vid en närmare titt på taken till de olikfärgade husen ser man de upp-och-ner-vända bokstäverna T till Y. There is no doubt that 19. CHIMNEY CELEB stood out among all of the "easy" questions - simply by being one of the hardest! In the midst of desperate attempts to decipher complex window patterns or finding out the chimney celeb X's real name, the focus was drawn away from the mistake in the picture. Upon closer inspection of the roofs of the coloured houses, one can see the letter T to Y pictured upside down. For the letter X, however, both "legs" are missing, making the light red house the correct answer. Correct answer: 8 (16 points)

24. REGNBÅGSBROTTSLING (24. RAINBOW CRIMINAL)

Redan 1965 kom den första versionen av GB:s glassgubbe i samband med lanseringen av en ny glassort, Pajaspinne, två år senare omdöpt till Cirkuspinne. Clownen, som fick namnet Clovve, ritades av Uno Hattling och har under senare år trist nog förekommit i en mängd brott, oftast där själva figuren stulits från en glasskiosk eller liknande inrättning, men den har även figurerat vid rena rån. De ursprungliga färgerna återspeglar inte nödvändigtvis den brittiska flaggan från anno dazumal, men möjligheten finns med tanke på landets dåvarande förkortning, GB. Already back in 1965 the first version of the famous Swedish ice cream clown appeared when a new popsicle/creamsicle called Pajaspinne was introduced. The clown, aptly named Clovve, was designed by Uno Hattling and has unfortunately appeared in a number of crimes in the past years. Most of the time it is a theft of the actual plastic clown itself from an unsuspecting ice cream vendor, but there have been reports of robbieries as well. The originial colours does not necessarily reflect those of the old Union flag from the history books, but the possibility exists given both the country and the company uses the abbreviation GB. Every once in a while, Clovve updates his outfit where one today can read his "gang affiliation": GB GLACE. This season, Clovve has found a girlfriend, Clovina, which hopefully may bring an end to the criminal path that started over 40 years ago. Correct answer: GB Glace (14 points)

Nobody can have missed the latest world-encompassing ABBA revival in the wake of the movie Mamma Mia!, which is based on the musical with the same name. No matter what one thinks of the ABBA sound or even Pierce Brosnans singing skills, it is easy to find oneself tapping along in the simple but intriguing rhythm of the past. In the movie the main character Sophie mails three letter, of which one has the postage stamps shown in the question. Later, Sophie meets her possible fathers, all three of them, on the Swedish-flaggingp yacht Fernando. The name of the boat in the movie is, just like everything else, tightly linked to ABBA through the song the iconic group performed in English, and had previously been released by Frida in Swedish. The history of the real boat, with the real name Tai-Mo-Shan, could be the story of movie on its own. Correct avswer: Fernando (11.5 points)

I val där man redan före valet vet namnet på vinnaren kan det faktiskt fortfarande vara viktigt att rösta - i alla fall om samtliga kandidater heter likadant! Så var fallet i samband med en reklamkampanj strax före filmen The Simpsons Movie hade premiär i USA. Bland fjorton städer i landet som heter Springfield, precis som i den tecknade serien, fördes en intensiv kampanj där den vinnande staden ligger på östkusten i Vermont, mycket tack vare deras valkampanjsfilm. Namnet Vermont kommer troligtvis från franskans les mons vert, de gröna bergen. Ledtrådsbilden i med-i-adventskalendern visar State Captiol Building i en av förlorarna, Springfield, Illinois. Even in elections where you know the name of the winner before the election may be worth voting in - at least if all the candidates have the same name. This was the case in a promotional election just before the US premiere of The Simpsons Movie. In fourteen cities all named Springfield, just like in the animated series, intensive campaigns were held where the winning city was found on the east coast in Vermont. The name Vermont is likely derived from the French les mons vert, the green mountains. A perfect match?


As usual, this year's matchstick problem offered an unusual solution, in spite of being fairly straightforward. The object was to take two triangles and make four by moving as few matches as possible. Since a null solution was out of the question, many realized that one needs to move at least one matchstick - which also turned out to be the correct solution. One possible solution is shown above, but it is also possible to write the four using Roman numerals, IV. Correct answer: 1 (10 points)

Denna bildfråga baserar sig först och främst på ordet övergång, d.v.s. möjligheten att ta sig från ena sidan till den andra. Slår man upp ordet bro i Svenska akademiens ordbok finner man bland annat förklaringen "(i allm. större o. bredare) öfvergång l. för­bindelseled (kör- l. gångbana) som sträcker sig öfver ett vatten(drag), en ravin l. sänka l. dyl. l. som öfver hufvud taget förenar tvenne punk­ter med hvarandra ofvanför marken l. grunden". Det vattendrag som åsyftas visar sig vara Fyrisån som rinner genom centrala Uppsala, där följande övergångar sammanbinder det två delarna (räknade uppströms): Islandsbron - Västgötaspången - Nybron - Dombron - S:t Olofsbron - Jernbron - Haglunds bro - Eddaspången. This picture-esque questions is formed around the word transitions, that is the possibility to get from one side to the other. The thing to cross is the river/stream Fyris (Swe. Fyrisån) which runs through the central parts of Uppsala, where a transition is offered by the following bridges (listed upstreams): Islandsbron - Västgötaspången -Nybron - Dombron - S:t Olofsbron - Jernbron - Haglunds bro - Eddaspången. The missing transition metal was thus iron (Swe. järn) with atomic number 55. The clues included the coat of arms for the city of Magdeburg which has given name to the former School of Magdeburg right next to the bridge and the coat of arms of the province Uppland in which Uppsala is the capital. I år var fråga 23. FLAGGSPEL verkligen ett flaggspel i ordets rätta bemärkelse. Under öppningsceremonin för de tjugonionde olympiska spelen som hölls i Peking i sommar i marscherade länderna inte in i bokstavsordning utan i (första tecknets) penseldragantalsordning! I vanlig ordning marscherade dock Grekland in först, men därefter kom Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Turkiet o.s.v. tills Sverige (瑞典, utläses Ruìdiǎn) vandrade in som 185:e nation. This year, question 23. FLAG PARADE was truly a flag parade! During the opening ceremony of the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing last summer, the countries did not march in in alphabetical order, but in the more appropriate (first character) number-of-brush-strokes order! As usual, however, Greece was leading the nations, but after that came Guniea, Guinea-Bissau, Turkey, etc. until Sweden (瑞典, pronounced Ruìdiǎn) marched in as the 185th country. After the Italian tricolore, the flag of Senegal appeared. Correct answer: Senegal (7.5 points)

17. DELICATESSEN

Visst finns många klassiker på svenska julbord, men det är få som är så spridda som den eftersökta i 17. DELICATESSEN. Enligt folketymologin sägs operasångaren Pelle Janzon ha gett namn åt rätten Janssons frestelse, men då dess namn inte blev vedertaget förrän långt efter denne Janzon dog anses detta mindre troligt. Istället härleds namnet till 1928 och en viss fru Elvira Stigmarks kokerska vid namn Boberg, som döpte potatis- och ansjovisgratängen efter filmen Janssons frestelse med kokerskans favoritskådespelare i Edvin Adolphson i en av huvudrollerna. There are numerous classics on a Swedish X-Mas smorgasbord, but there are few that are as well-known as the one in 17. DELICATESSEN. Folk etymology keeps telling us that the name comes from the opera singer Per Adolf Janzon, but with a 40 year discrepancy of Janzon's death and the first recorded common use of the dish, this is now regarded as less likely. Instead, the name is related to a certain Elvira Stigmark and her cook Mrs. Boberg, who named the potato and anchovy gratin after the movie Janssons frestelse starring the cook's favourite actor Edvin Adolphson. The movie is in turn based on a burlesque comedy from 1914. The poem with the same name and other fascinating facts is offered by various Lindemen and a Janssons frestelse with a knife was part of Klurendrejeriet® 2007 as a clue to 14. JUST DO IT!. Att Sverige har ett väl utbyggt pantsystem fick deltagarna i Klurendrejeriet® erfara redan för ett par år sedan i jakten på C. SPÅR I BECKSVART MÖRKER. Då eftersöktes dock inte pantbeloppen som i årets fråga 04. PANTBANK. Panten för en standardflaska (33 cl) är som många vet 60 öre inklusive moms, men vid utbetalning på ett 60 öres kvitto erhålls bara 50 öre på grund av nuvarande avrundningssystem. För att vända en realförlust på 10 öre till en vinst ser man istället till att panta flaskorna tre och tre, vilket genererar ett pantkvitto på 1,80 kronor vilket i sin tur ger 2 kronor i handen tack vare samma avrundningsprincip! För att ytterligare maximera antalet flaskor kan man även använda ett pantkvitto på två flaskor (1,20 kronor) som dellikvid när man köper tre flaskor (8,94 kronor) och på så vis endast behöva betala 7,74 kronor, vilket avrundas neråt till 7,50 kronor. Beroende på hur man sedan tolkar frågans text kan man således köpa 58 eller 59 flaskor, där det senare alternativet krävs att man dricker upp snabbare än betalningen sker och att sedan lämnar den nyligen uppdruckna flaskan som pant! Participants in Klurendrejeriet® already know that Sweden has a well-built refund system for beer and soft drinks thanks to looking for C. GRUESOME EVIDENCE IN THE DARK a couple of years back. That time we were not looking for the refund like we did this time in 04. DIVIDEND. The refund value for a standard bottle (33 cl) is 60 öre including sales tax, but if cashing the receipt one only gets 50 öre with the enforced rounding system in Swedish cash registers. To turn a marginal loss of 10 öre to a possible gain, make sure you return the bottles in groups of three and cash the receipts seperately, thus generating a refund amount of 1.80 crowns which in turn is translated to 2 crowns using the same rounding technique! To maximize the number of bottles even further, one can use a refund receipt from two returned bottles (1.20 kronor) as partial payment for three bottles thereby reducing the amount to 7.74 crowns, rounded down to 7.50 crowns. Then, depending on how one interprets the question, it is possible to buy either 58 or 59 bottles, the latter requiring one to drink the 59th bottle faster than the payment takes place and leaving the just-finished bottle as payment! Det var ju nämligen bara dryga 53 år sedan som Rosa Parks vägrade att flytta bakåt i buss 2857 en decemberdag i Montgomery, Alabama. Ända sedan starten 2005 har den andra frågan i Klurendrejeriet® hetat 02. IS SAKNAS och årets tävling var inget undantag. Bilden på den svenska tiokronan från 2008 hade nämligen fått initialerna för Riksbankens chef Stefan Ingves (SI) bortretuscherade! Att myntet var från 2008 var av högsta vikt, eftersom det var detta år som tillverkningen av svenska mynt flyttade utomlands för första gången på väldigt länge. Since the frist English translation of Klurendrejeriet® in 2006, the second question has always been named 02. IS MISSING, and the same was true this year. The picture of the Swedish 10 crown coin from 2008 had had the initials of the Governor of the Swedish Riksbank Stefan Ingves (SI) edited away! The fact that the coin was from 2008 was indeed important, since this marked a new era of Swedish coins as the production was moved abroad. That the current manufacturer is in Finland may be less of a surprise for Ingves, born 1953 in Turku, Finland. Correct answer: 1953 (3 points; 30 % wrong answers)

16. REGNBÅGSSTRECK (16. RAINBOW STRIPE)

Den näst lättaste frågan i alla fall enligt de inskickade svaren var fråga 16. REGNBÅGSSTRECK, en utiklippt version av en av klädföretaget Esprits enfärgade logotyper. Titelns regnbågsinspiration togs från företagets hemsida, där även den enfärgade kan beskådas. Med butiker i nitton länder, inklusive de fem där årets deltagare kom ifrån, är företaget verkligen på den internationella arenan. Rätt svar: Esprit (2 poäng; 0 % felaktiga svar)




The second easiest question at least judging by the answers sent in was question 16. RAINBOW STRIPE, a cut-into-pieces version of one of the fashion designer Esprit's simpler logotypes. The rainbow inspiration was taken from the homepage of the company, where the monochrome kind also can be seen. With boutiques in nineteen countries, including the five this year's contestants came from, the company is truly international. Correct answer: Esprit (2 points; 0 % wrong answers)

05. BRÖDTEXT (05. BUN FILLING)

Den fråga som flest svarade rätt på var fråga 5. BRÖDTEXT. Frågan handlade om snabbmatskedjan och franchiseföretaget Hungry Jack's i Australien. Kedjan som tillhandahåller Burger Kings produkter har ett brokigt förflutet, men håller ändå fast i logotypen av det äldre snittet. Burger King har däremot bytt logotyp och passade dessutom inte in i frågetextens krav. Jack anspelar i sin tur på det svenska kortet knekt, vars värde oftast motsvarar 11. De två bokstäver som hängde på den nedre brödhalvan visade dessutom knektförkortningen Kn. Rätt svar: 11 (värde: 1 poäng)

The question that most people answered correctly was question 5. BUN FILLING. The question dealt with the fast food franchise Hungry Jack's in Australia, which supplies the population downunder with the products normally connected to Burger King. The company has a interesting history, but still sticks to the classic-styled logotype. Burger King, on the other hand, has changed its to a more modern(?) one. Jack, in turn, is the playing card we were looking for, which has a symbolic value of eleven in many Swedish card games. The letters Kn on the lower bun half is the Swedish symbol for knekt, that is a jack (or knave). Correct answer: 11 (value: 1 point)
