No trees (passing)!
Överträdelse beivras!
For those of you who participated in Klurendrejeriet® 2006, today's date - St. Knut's Day - will forever be connected to a jailbird trough question 13. JAILHOUSE ROCK, while others traditionally concentrate on getting the X-Mas tree out of the house. Just like Klurendrejeriet® 2008, the important lesson is to get a firm grip of the tree and burn it and the needles properly, since in Sweden a defunct X-Mas tree counts as oversized garbage.
Ledtråden given tidigare skall (tillsammans med denna) följas bokstavligen ...

The clue given earlier should (together with this one) be followed to the letter ...

No couch potato.
Ingen groda.
All of you who participated in Klurendrejeriet® mini last fall may remember that the last clue was to lead the thoughts to the word val, the Swedish word for i whale, ii election, and iii choice (if you do not remember, click here). Now, the ancestor of whales is said to be have found by the paleontologist Hans Thewissen at the Northeastern Ohio State University in a sample that was collected in Kashmir some 20 years ago. This is reported in the scientific journal Nature, which also has collected a few of the dedications "The Year of the ..." where we find both potatoes and frogs. Let us hope that all couch potatoes get active when they read Klurbloggen.

x2
With the last clue (for this year) to the last question in Klurendrejeriet® 2008 we are also closing the Advent(ure)kalender. We hope that the clues that have been given here have put you readers on the right track or that it at least has worked as verifying material to an already solved question. If that should not be the case, we hope that you continue reading the blog until the contest is finished. Who knows, perhaps there will be given a clue to just the question you need help with ...

Works with fire?
Verkar med fyr?
Of course it is possible to celebrate a silent New Year's Eve, at least in Svedala. In an effort to take canine suffering into consideration, the fireworks this year will be a soundless one! It would be wrong to call all the questions in Klurendrejeriet® 2008 soundless, but that you probably have figured out already. The most noise ought to be coming from the movement in question 22.

Deck the hall!
Uppåt väggarna!
Is it a coincidence that the clue for today is very similar the one for yesterday? Probably not, but on the other hand, one still has to match the correct pattern with the correct question.

Yule visit us!
Besökstomt(e)?
We have previously reported that Santa in Sweco's calculation mathematically should start his journey from Kyrgyzstan to be able to maximize the time he has to finish his delivery. Now, an official ceremony in true Holiday fashion named a mountain peak after "The Big Red Guy". Was it perhaps here on Klurbloggen the first news report was read?

Box (p)art?
Askfynd?
Just like so many times before, the importance of sweets in a Swedish X-Mas celebration is discussed in Swedish newspapers. Both Expressen and Aftonbladet opt to publish Tidningarnas telegrambyrå's chocolate report, while Dagens Nyheter uses an interview instead. Already last year, two different Swedish favorites were in question, and one even re-appears in the text this year. This means that we have reason to return to candy in a few days.

In every library?
I varje bibliotek?
In addition to SAOL XIII, there is a good reason to have a Swedish-English dictionary handy, especially if one wants to scoop parallel truths from the Swedish original version of Klurendrejeriet® 2008. Other books that may be useful could be the classic The Blue Book of Chess, the recently issued Finland-Swedish Sånger för alla and possibly Stardust: the ***** ***** Story (for inspiration).

A new number one!
Ett nytt rekord!
Yesterday's posts on Klurbloggen generated a never-before-seen onrush in the four-year history of Klurendrejeriet®, shattering all previous records to smithereens in the process: highest number of unique visitors, highest number of page loads, highest number of returning visitors, and highest number of new international visitors. The new record is 307 unique visitors and we hereby welcome a large number of readers from the United Kingdom, the United States, Mexico, and Switzerland (currently on 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th place, respectively). The returning visitors realize that Germany has (temporarily?) dropped to a fourth place, but that is not too bad either.
Svenska Dagbladet kommenterar svenskättlingen H.A.

110 procent svensk!
The Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet comments the Swedish-American H.A. Barton's statement that 4.3 million Americans say they have Swedish ancestry. If this is true, it could possibly explain the web statistics here on Klurbloggen, where the United States is one of the up-and-coming countries after gamla landet Sweden and the eternal(?) runner-up Germany. To wrap this up, we can inform new viewers that Klurendrejeiet® visited Swedish-American settler history in 2005 where one had to LOOK UP, NOT DOWN! And if you are Swedish, you should have no problem to figure out which song this is about.

SAOLet's get to it!
Ska di vao SAOLätt?
DOUBLE TROUBLE has been part of every translated version of Klurendrejeriet®, has been question 11 all those times, and has always asked for verification in Svenska Akademiens ordlista över svenska språket [The Contemporary Dictionary of the Swedish Academy]! If you do not have a personal copy, just head to the nearest library or why not ask Santa to bring you one? Nowadays, we are referring to the thirteenth edition (SAOL XIII), nevertheless the word dubbelgrubbel cannot be found in this or the previous edition (SAOL XII)! Luckily the word we are looking for is found in both editions, though on a page with higher page number in the later one.

Had a menu worth its price?
Hade en meny värd priset?
The question today is somewhat new, but the title has appeared once before (in Klurendrejeriet® 2005 [without English translation]). That time, we were looking for a meal that was serves close to a hundred years before, or almost exactly 102 years ago today. Furthermore, in the also not-yet-translated Klurendrejeriet® mini [2006], the more-than-similar title THE SUMPTUOUS DINNER (IS NOT MISSING) appeared, where the menu listed had been served onboard the same night as the famous ship RMS .....i. sunk.

Don't count on me, hew-man!
Räkna inte med mig, menni-sha!
Though our modern numeral system circles around base-10, there has been more than a few other versions throughout history. The Romans thought it was nice to have a sub-base in five, a full hand (quinary numeral system), and the Yuki tribe in California found the space between the fingers equally useful for their octal (base-8) system. A duodecimal kind is easily divided into smaller integers and is combined with five to get the sexagesimal numerals we still use to tell time. To find the leftovers of a vigesimal numeral system (base-20), we do not need to go to the nearest Maya ruin. No, it is enough to go to Denmark where firs is offered for eighty, short for firsindstyve. One can also go to Britain (four scores), France (quatre-vingt), or why not Ferenginar (tal-Dim) to find similar equivalents. But what should one call a "numeral system" that does not use all numbers? The one we are looking for is not a fake one. that much we can tell you, but you still should not get fooled.

"There once vas on old voman in Leningrad ..."
Not long ago, Matt Damon (playing Jason Bourne) was once again a pawn in a chess game of global proportions in Bourne Ultimatum, though this has not made him the person Americans in distress would want to have by their side, as previously reported here on Klurbloggen. In Star Trek [TOS], however, Pavel Chekov (played by Walter Koenig) always defended his ship, the USS Enterprise. Clearly, life is anything but a truth in black and white ...

The lastest addition to Klurbloggen, the automated survey system Blogger has set up, seems to be somewhat faulty when going back to previously viewed pages. We hope that this will be fixed in the near future (by Blogger staff), but until then we hope it does not cause too much grievance. The easiest way to navigate is to click more than once on backwards links or by using the archive menu on the bottom right-hand side of the blog.
